29th June

Nursery:
This week in Nursery we have been talking about the Olympics.  The children went out and sat on the field to watch the local school’s Olympic torch come into the school playground on Thursday.  In assembly we learnt an Olympics song with actions!! Thank you Miss Plummer!
Some of the children have started to think about meeting their new teacher and we have done lots of talking about what is happening next year, for those children moving to Reception and those staying Nursery.
We have been working on our Teddy Bears Picnic invitation.  These will be sent home next week for our Teddies.
Please could we remind you that the children need to have a hat to wear at Nursery and suncream should be applied before they come in for their session.
Thank you, Have a good weekend

Year 1
Hello again everyone!
Well what a lovely, energetic week we have had….Olympic torches, sports day, food from around the World….the list goes on!  Here is what the children have said they enjoyed this week.
Victor said ‘I enjoyed it when the replica Olympic torch came to our school.  I thought it was a good model because it looked like a real Olympic torch!’
Erin said ‘I liked tasting the food from around the World.  I loved the baguette with brie cheese on top!’
Ben said ‘I loved Sports Day because I had to run quickly and I won a sticker.’
Josh said ‘I enjoyed Sports Day because I had to sprint to the finish line.  I came third!  I felt sad but happy at the same time’

Have a lovely weekend and stay safe!
Looking forward to seeing you next week
The Year 1 Team x

Year 2
2C have had a super week preparing to write our recount on our trip to Colchester Zoo and then writing it up. We have looked at track races at the Olympics and the length of the races in metres. In maths we have been working hard on our multiplication and division facts. Miss Rothwell got the children to make some insects in DT, they are not finished yet but will be fantastic when done.
We have had so much fun in our sports week. It was lovely to see the Southend Olympic flame and the two sports personalities who visited. On Thursday afternoon the year 5 and 6 children played games on the field with us and we all enjoyed it so much.

Year 3
This week is sports week and to celebrate that we have had a jam packed week of activities. We have taken part in sports day, had an afternoon of whole school games and developed a range of sporting skills.
R favourite part of the week was the pentathlon with 3B. We took part in events like hurdles, discus, javelin, long jump and sprinting. We competed in this event because we started to learn about the Ancient Greek Olympics and the events that were used back then.
Jay’s favourite event was sprinting because he achieved first position. Cameron also liked the sprinting because he enjoys running. Eryn loved the hurdles because she likes to jump and John came first in the discus and was excited about throwing so far.
We would like to say a massive THANK YOU to Mrs Weddell for working so hard this week and arranging all of the brilliant events this week!
Hope you have a great weekend!!
Miss Crumbie, Mrs Johnson and 3C

It has been a really busy and exciting week at Darlinghurst with lots going on with the focus on sport and games at it has been National Sports Week. As a  class we have been active everyday and have played a variety of sports, including some many of us had never tried before. We have seen the arrival on Thursday of the replica Olympic torch and the whole school as there to greet the runners that carried it from Our lady Of Lourdes. We had a very special guest come to talk to us on Thursday morning – Poppy Lake the 2011 and 2012 ‘British Schools’ High Jump champion. She spoke to us about working hard to achieve your goals in life and was an inspiration as she had achieved so much by the age of 16. W have also measure her personal best jump of 1m 73cm on the board and there were quite a few of us that couldn’t reach it!
Kyle – “Yesterday I was speechless to seeing Poppy Lake. I was hungry when it came to tasting food from around the world. It was fun playing dodge ball in games”.

Laura – “I thought it was very sweet when the whole school including the Nursery came to watch the torch arrive”.
